Vocation of “Convention Delegate” Kicks into High Gear

by Brian Yamabe on May 28, 2010

Yesterday evening the LCMS announced that eight floor committees had proposed 104 resolutions for this summers national convention. As a lay delegate to this convention I have the duty of looking over, understanding, and voting on these resolutions. Please pray for me and all the other delegates that we might fulfill our obligation with seriousness and to consider all resolutions in light of the Scriptures and the Lutheran confessions.

A large number of the proposals (33) revolve around the restructuring of the synod. The restructuring talks began in earnest last year when the Blue Ribbon Task Force on Synodical Structure and Governance came out with its report which include 20 or so recommendations. In the corner of the blogosphere in which I hang out, the reaction to these recommendations has been overwhelmingly negative (See this great list of posts organized by Scott Diekmann). I’ve also posted about my concerns with recommendations and the process itself. But now the rubber is hitting the road and I get to dissect concrete resolutions and while it will be a lot of work, I for one am glad that people can no longer hide behind platitudes and good intentions.
